Kraków

Kraków is a historic city located in southern Poland that is renowned for its rich cultural heritage, stunning architecture, and vibrant atmosphere. It is considered to be one of the most beautiful cities in Europe and a must-visit destination for travellers looking to explore Poland. Widely recognised as the cultural capital of Poland, it is famous for its bohemian atmosphere, great theatres, galleries and museums, live jazz music and much more. It is perhaps worth noting that Kraków is one of just six places in the world that can boast a painting by Leonardo da Vinci – Leonardo’s Lady with An Ermine is on display at the reopened Czartoryski Museum. One of the most famous cultural events in Kraków is the annual Jewish Culture Festival, which celebrates Jewish culture and history through music, dance, and other performances. The festival attracts visitors from all over the world and has become a beloved cultural event in the city.

Krakow is also home to some of the most beautiful and well-preserved mediaeval architecture in Europe. The city’s historic centre is a UNESCO World Heritage site and is home to numerous landmarks such as Wawel Castle, St. Mary’s Basilica, and Rynek Główny – the largest mediaeval market square in Europe. Just outside of the city you can find one of the salt mines in the world – Wieliczka Salt Mine. Visitors can take a tour of the mine, which includes underground lakes, chapels, and sculptures made entirely out of salt. Another place worth visiting are the Tatra Mountains, which offer a wide range of hiking trails for all skill levels. The scenery is breathtaking, and it’s a great way to experience the natural beauty of Poland. Apart from the historical and cultural landmarks, Kraków is also known for its lively atmosphere, with many bars, restaurants, and cafes that cater to local tourists alike. The city’s nightlife scene is particularly vibrant, with a wide range of music venues, clubs, and bars that offer everything including live music festivals and concerts. From its world-renowned museums and galleries to its bustling nightlife and delicious cuisine, there’s something for everyone to enjoy in Kraków.

AGH University of Science and Technology is a prestigious university located in Kraków, Poland. It was founded in 1919 and has since become one of the leading universities in Poland and Europe, particularly in the fields of science, engineering, and technology. In international rankings, the AGH UST regularly ranks first among Polish technical universities. It is one of 10 higher education institutions in Poland with the status of a research university.

AGH UST offers a wide range of undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate programmes in various fields such as mining, geology, computer science, physics, electrical engineering, and many more. The university comprises 16 faculties and a research centre – the AGH UST Academic Centre for Materials and Nanotechnology. Our education offer includes 22 fields of study taught entirely in English. The AGH UST educates more than 20,000 students and employs approximately 2,000 academic staff (more than 200 professors and 500 associate professors). Experienced academic and administrative staff, advanced laboratories, a unique campus, and the AGH UST community are our greatest assets.

The university is actively engaged in international cooperation and has established partnerships with universities and research institutions around the world. AGH UST participates in various student exchange programmes, joint research projects, and international conferences, providing students and faculty members with opportunities to collaborate with colleagues and partners from different countries.

The Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange, also known as NAWA, is a government agency responsible for promoting and supporting internationalisation in Polish higher education. It was established in 2017 and is based in Warsaw.

NAWA's main mission is to support the internationalisation of Polish universities and scientific institutions, as well as to promote the Polish language and culture abroad. The agency provides funding for various programmes and initiatives that promote academic mobility, such as scholarships for international students and researchers to study in Poland, but also to study and conduct research abroad.

In addition, NAWA supports international cooperation between Polish institutions and their foreign partners, including joint research projects, conferences, and other academic initiatives.

The agency works to strengthen the global reputation of Polish higher education, as well as to build partnerships and cooperation with institutions around the world. One of the best-known programmes created by NAWA is Welcome to Poland. Its main objective is to provide funding for various higher education and research institutions to carry out their own individual projects related to the field of internationalisation.
